Workshop/ Bytte (2008)

As part of the art in public space project UT-21 at Lillehammer, I organized and carried out a workshop for a group of nine students attending the Media class at Lillehammer high school. The aim of the workshop was to pinpoint some questions about the media culture and stereotypes of gender, in addition to teach the students about photography as a means of expression, both theoretically and practically. We tried to discuss what it means to participate in a photographic culture where assessments, identities, ideals and power are being articulated and performed through and with photos. And we were interested in finding out how meaning is created in photography and how we can obtain tools to construct stories about ourselves and our own identity. According to an idea from the students the group ultimately produced the photo series "Swap", which consisted of 14 portraits/self portraits printed on fabrics. The photos were exhibited in the windows of the café at Lillehammer Art Museum during UT-21. A poster was produced and hung around in the city during the exhibition.
