Robotnik (The Worker) is a film about a Polish woman who works as a “cleaning lady” in Oslo. The film delves into the challenges linked to work migration and class affiliation, while also trying to address certain stereotypes about Polish migrant workers – by portraying one of them. In addition, Robotnik is a portrayal of Oslo and Norway, the world in which the protagonist lives and works. Thus the film becomes a portrait of a woman living and working in Norway today, as well as an attempt at giving voice to "the new Norwegian" in light of the structural changes that are happening in Norway and the rest of the world regarding ideology, global economy and politics. Who are the big “we” in Norway in 2012, at the fringes of the European financial crisis?
