Ducks In a Row
2023
Ducks in a Row – Marte Aas is an artist monograph that thematizes five different films and art projects by visual artist and filmmaker Marte Aas. What these works have in common is that they are about how technology and our bodies are inextricably linked and cannot be seen independently of each other. The book is a comprehensive documentation of film work, still images, sketches and research material from Aas' artistic production in the years 2017 to 2023. This is typed with texts by art theorist and curator Mike Sperlinger, art historian Line Ulekleiv, gender researcher Ingvil Hellstrand and author Per Schreiner.
The films presented and discussed in the book was shown in separate rooms in the historic Rådmannsgården, on the first floor under the Oslo Art Association's own premises. The building dates from 1626 and the rooms here are in a row, each with its own distinct character. From an original plaster stucco from the 18th century in the first room (referred to as the Festival Hall), to a room covered in red velor wallpaper in the next, and on to different moods in the other rooms, including green painted wallpaper and a fireplace with decorations . By showing a film in each room, a narrative was created where the audience could move freely between the various films and at the same time gain in-depth knowledge of Marte Aas´ unique film production, with the historical rooms as a setting.
